Bandung, March 27, 2024 - The retail brand with the most branches in Indonesia, known for being economical, complete, and close, MR.DIY continues its holistic #PilahSampahLebihMudah initiative with a focus on 3R (Reuse, Reduce, Recycle) to address the unresolved waste problem. Starting from early education regarding waste management and utilization of used goods, to synergizing with Rekosistem in placing recycle station dropboxes in 10 MR.DIY stores strategically spread across the Jabodetabek, Bandung, and Surabaya areas. MR.DIY continues this sustainable program by embracing the West Java Regional National Craft Council to hold a workshop on Sustainable and Profitable Business Development for MSMEs and Student Activity Units (UKM) Entrepreneurship in the city of Bandung.

Reported from the official website of West Java Open Data, the amount of waste in West Java reached 400,147 tons in 2023. In an effort to reduce this figure, the Bandung City Government formed a Task Force (Satgas) for the Acceleration of the Implementation of New Habits of Waste Management in Bandung City through the Decree of the Mayor of Bandung Number: 658.1 / Kep.067-DLH / 2024 dated January 12, 2024 to achieve Indonesia Clean from Waste 2025. To achieve this target, the government recommends the application of the 3R principle (Reuse, Reduce, Recycle) in managing waste to reduce the amount of waste produced and reuse recyclable waste.

"Based on the data, West Java is the third largest province with the largest number of MSMEs in Indonesia. Therefore, MSMEs are one of the aspects that are quite large to be educated and developed regarding waste sorting and processing management. So we continue the #PilahSampahLebihMudah initiative in West Java, especially the city of Bandung, as a form of MR.DIY's commitment to supporting the Indonesia Free from Waste program. By providing waste management education to MSMEs, they can become agents of change for suppliers, consumers, stakeholders, and even the surrounding community," said Rian Mochtar Aziz Thamrin, Head of Legal MR.DIY Indonesia.

Seeing this, MR.DIY collaborated with the West Java National Craft Council to hold a workshop on Sustainable and Profitable Business Development for MSMEs. This workshop will be divided into 2 sessions, with the first session related to Tips for Successfully Increasing Sustainable Business Turnover, and the second session on Waste Management Strategies for Sustainable MSME Businesses.

"Sustainable business is a business that does not only think about profit, but also the environment and society. In running a business, a clear vision and mission, innovation, value, and influence on the environment are needed, for example reducing plastic waste. Therefore, it is important for MSMEs to be able to apply legal values and behavior in business, so that they can increase turnover and continue to exist over time," said Rezha Noviana as Founder of @bdgfoodtruck

The 3R principle (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) is an effective way to manage waste including collection, transportation, processing, and disposal, accompanied by supervision and regulations for waste management. Met on the same occasion, Reza Aulia Faizah, West Java Environmental Ambassador also said, "Managing waste properly is one important way to keep our environment clean and healthy. In line with the Reduce concept, this can be done by reducing the consumption of natural resources and reducing waste production; for example, the use of products that can be used for a long time. Products such as tumblers or food containers sold at MR.DIY can also reduce the use of single-use plastics."

To complement the Recycle program, MR.DIY synergizes with Rekosistem in presenting a dropbox recycle station to help the community manage waste. "This is one way to support the concept of recycling or recycling waste into materials that can be reused. MR.DIY customers and MSMEs can deposit inorganic waste according to category into the drop box provided. Later, all collected waste will be recorded and re-sorted at the Rekosistem waste hub and reprocessed at the recycling center," explained Yohannes David, VP of Operations Rekosistem.

In addition, of course, MR.DIY also consistently provides a variety of affordable, complete, and convenient cleaning product choices that are located close to consumers spread across the archipelago, making it easier for people to manage waste better and more appropriately at home and in the surrounding environment.

"We hope that the entire series of #PilahSampahLebihMudah sustainable programs will make it easier for consumers and the community to sort waste properly, so that it can reduce its negative impact on the environment. As well as creating more agents of change and encouraging the creation of a Clean Indonesia 2025," concluded Rian to the media.
